Remember the NUDGE command, which will point you toward currently-solvable puzzles. If you find yourself using it a lot, POINTERS ON will flag those puzzles on the map.
  1. General

    1. What’s going on here?

      1. You’re a grad student trying to gather data for your thesis.
      2. But your unconventional research methods require human remains in situ.
      3. So you’re poking around an archaeological dig looking for some.
    2. What should I be doing?

      1. When in doubt, try to fill out the map!
      2. The NUDGE command will point you toward what you can do at any given moment.
    3. How does this “memory palace” work?

      1. You’re effectively in a dream constructed from the memories of long-dead Assyrians.
      2. Things in the dream work the way your mind expects them to, which means you can pick up objects and mess around with them.
      3. You can’t carry anything from the real world to the dream or back again.
      4. Use what you can find in the dream to solve problems in the dream, and see what you can learn.
    4. What are these “cutscenes” about?

      1. Those are flashbacks to moments in these long-dead Assyrians’ lives.
      2. They’re what you’re here to research.
      3. The overall goal of the game is to piece together the story behind them.
    5. Should I be taking notes?

      1. If you want. But nothing important is missable: you can always go back and view earlier memories again.
      2. The game doesn’t quiz you on the story, so piecing it together is entirely for your own satisfaction.
  2. What should I do in...

    1. ...Tell Nabi Yunus, Your Camp, and Above the Dig Site?

      1. This is the tutorial area.
      2. Get used to how the game works...
      3. ...and figure out how to reach the dig itself.
      4. You’ll need a rope and something to anchor it to.
      5. Get the rope from your backpack and tie it to the datum.
      6. Now you can climb down.
    2. ...the Excavation?

      1. Look around for human remains.
      2. DIVINE THE BONES.
    3. ...the Ziggurat and surrounding areas?

      1. Get used to the surreal world of the memory palace.
      2. Explore, and if something blocks your path, try to work around it.
    4. ...the Dungeon?

      1. Get used to experiencing memories of the distant past.
      2. Then, look around.
      3. Examine yourself, examine your unfortunate brother, examine the two men.
      4. Grab the spear while you’re at it.
    5. ...the Palace?

      1. Second verse, same as the first: explore!
  3. How do I get past...

    1. ...the cliff above the dig site?

      1. You’ll need a rope and something to anchor it to.
      2. Get the rope from your backpack and tie it to the datum.
      3. Now you can climb down.
    2. ...the barred door?

      1. Examine the door.
      2. Examine the crack.
      3. You’ll need something sturdy to shove through that crack.
      4. Like the spear from the Dungeon.
      5. Put the spear in the crack, then push the spear.
    3. ...the blazing light?

      1. It’s too intense to walk into.
      2. You need something to protect your eyes.
      3. Like a blindfold.
      4. Wear the blindfold, then walk through it.
    4. ...the hot coals?

      1. Try walking across them.
      2. You need to cool them down.
      3. Pour water on them.
      4. Use the bucket from the Marketplace.
      5. You can fill it from the fountain also in the Marketplace.
    5. ...the clinging darkness?

      1. You need a source of light.
      2. Maybe the torches from the Dungeon?
      3. That won’t work: you need something not being held in a person’s hand.
      4. Like the lamp from the Back Room.
      5. You’ll need to fill it with oil.
      6. There’s oil in the Moonlit Courtyard.
      7. Then you need to light it.
      8. You can use the forge in the Workshop or the torch in the Dungeon.
      9. Now you can walk through the darkness unscathed.
    6. ...the pit at N10E10?

      1. How did you climb down something before?
      2. You need the rope.
      3. You can’t untie the rope from the bottom.
      4. You need a way to get to Above the Dig Site without using the rope.
      5. The cart at N0E20 is big enough to stand on.
      6. Push the cart to N0E10, then stand on it.
      7. Now you can go retrieve the rope.
      8. You still need something to tie the rope to, though.
      9. Push the cart to N10E10, then lock it there.
      10. Tie the rope to it, and climb down.
  4. What do I do with...

    1. ...the rope?

      1. It should hold your weight easily.
      2. You can climb it.
      3. Tie it to the datum at Above the Dig Site and climb down.
    2. ...the spear?

      1. You need it in the Ziggurat.
      2. Force open the barred door.
    3. ...the bucket?

      1. You need it in the Palace.
      2. Fill it with water.
      3. Pour water on the hot coals.
    4. ...the blindfold?

      1. You need it in the Ziggurat.
      2. Wear it to walk through the blinding light.
    5. ...the lamp?

      1. You need it in the Palace.
      2. First, you need to be in the Moonlit Courtyard.
      3. Fill it with oil from the pithos.
      4. Then find a fire source and light it.
      5. You can use the forge in the Workshop or the torch in the Dungeon.
      6. Now you can go through the clinging darkness.
      7. You can also use it in the Dungeon to see more details.
    6. ...the statue of Marduk?

      1. Push it.
  5. I don’t know what to do or where to go!

    1. For most of the game...

      1. Try the NUDGE command. It should point you in the right direction.
      2. If you find yourself using NUDGE a lot, try POINTERS ON to mark them on the map.
    2. At the very end...

      1. NUDGE is still good for tying off loose ends.
      2. If NUDGE doesn’t point you to anything, then you’ve solved all the puzzles the game has to offer!
      3. Once you’re satisfied with your understanding of the story, type FINISH.
  6. What does [unfamiliar word] mean?

    1. Check the pocket encyclopedia.
    2. You’ll find it in your backpack in the waking world.
